As your President of Press Club Brussels and International Asociation of Press Clubs, I was privileged to be invited to be the official guest speaker at the inauguration ceremony of the launch of Foreign Correspondent’s Club of the UAE in Abu Dhabi, which too place on 21st May.
Under the patronage and attendance of HE Dr. Sultan Ahmad Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State, Chairman of the National Media Council of the United Arab Emirates, the Foreign Correspondent’s Club of the UAE was opened as a facility and meeting place for Foreign Correspondents from the world’s media based in or visiting the UAE.
Situated in the new Rotana Complex in Abu Dhabi the club provides excellent modern facilities for meetings, press conferences, networking and relaxed conversation between UAE government ministers and official and the world’s press, very similar to our own Press Club Brussels.
It is envisaged that access to the club, which is free to accredited member of the press and media, will be expanded to other government representations in the UAE and corporations doing business in the UAE, thereby ensuring a centralised media hub and “one stop” contact point for all press and media enquires, press conference and events.
After being welcomed by Mr Jaber Al Lamki, the Executive Director Media & Strategic Communication of the UAE National Media Council, I was invited to speak about my role as President of the Press Club Brussels
On behalf of you all I extended greetings and good wishes from Press Club Brussels to the FCC UAE for a successful future and explained how Press Club Brussels holds the presidency of both the European Association of Press Clubs and the presidency of International Press Clubs for 2019 / 20.
I also extended an open invitation to all members and officials of the Foreign Correspondents Club of UAE to visit and be welcomed at the Press Club Brussels at any time. There are strong indications that we will receive a visit from their managing committee very soon.
Afterwards, at a relaxed and informal reception, I met with foreign correspondents based in UAE, including Becky Anderson and Nic Robertson of CNN, Daleen Hassan of Euronews, Nesreen Bakheit of Sky Arabia and Mohamed Alhammadi of the Journalist’s Association of UAE.
I was asked to convey to you all that members of Press Club Brussels visiting the UAE will always receive a warm welcome at the Foreign Correspondent’s Club of The UAE – Rotana Complex – Abu Dhabi.
