The EU-Asia Centre invited Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström on Tuesday 16 October from 16:30-17:30 in the Press Club, 95 Rue Froissart, 1040 Brussels for a policy discussion.
The week of 16 October saw a range of events culminating in the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) on 18-19 October involving over 50 Heads of State and Government from both continents.
On the eve of ASEM, it was timely to hear how the EU views Asia from the perspective of the Trade Commissioner. She has played a leading role in the EU’s drive to sign trade agreements with a range of Asian countries including Japan, Korea, Singapore and Vietnam, with more in the pipeline.
The Commissioner outlined her views on ‘Why Asia Matters’ before engaging in a discussion with the audience.
