The European Network of Political Foundations (ENoP) is delighted to invite you to join us in person for the 2023 International Forum of Political Foundations: Political Parties and Perspectives on Democracy on 15-16 May at Residence Palace in Brussels.
The Forum is a cross-party pilot initiative that aims to bring together different European political foundations and their partners. Its main objective is to trigger an exchange on supporting and strengthening political parties committed to promoting and defending democracy, free and fair elections, an independent judiciary, free media, and human rights.
During its first edition, prominent speakers include: European Commissioner Jutta Urpilainen; Tarja Halonen, former President of Finland; Sam Rainsy, interim leader of CNRP, Cambodia; Lutz Güllner, EEAS representative; Hakima El-Haite, President of Liberal International; Thundu Lissu, former Member of Parliament, Chadema, Tanzania; Kira Rudik, Vice-President of the ALDE Party and Member of Parliament, Holos, Ukraine; Halyna Yachenko, Member of Parliament, Sluha Narodu, Ukraine; Monika Zajkova, Member of Parliament and Leader of LDP North Macedonia; and former Members of the European Parliament, Knut Fleckenstein and Maria João Rodrigues.
The programme will discuss different vital topics linked to the necessary reforms political parties must undertake in defence against anti-democratic threats, including:
- Analysis of current challenges for liberal democracies and the role political parties and political foundations play, given actual threats to democratic regimes;
- Strengthening intra-party democracy and transparency for ensuring decision-making processes within political parties become more inclusive, democratic and transparent to its activists;
- Political integrity of party leadership and how it is essential for increasing trust in political parties, considering the responsibility they bear in defending democracy;
- Empowering women in political parties and examining their (potential) roles in peacebuilding processes;
- Intersectionality between increasing youth participation in political parties and innovative elements in modern-day politics.
