The Odysseus Academic Network is organising a book launch for the Research Handbook on EU Migration and Asylum Law (Edward Elgar 2022), co-edited by Lilian Tsourdi (Maastricht University) and Philippe De Bruycker (Université libre de Bruxelles). This Research Handbook provides a holistic analysis of the development of the EU migration and asylum policies. Featuring twenty three contributions from legal specialists, chapters consider a variety of issues including the role of the institutional framework, visas, borders, family and labour migration, refugee protection, mobility, solidarity, and externalisation. It also offers an examination of the effect of the migration ‘crisis’ on EU asylum and migration law and the potential legal changes this may cause, as well as a survey of the developments of the New Pact on Migration and Asylum presented by the European Commission in 2020.
The Handbook was also drafted as the perfect companion for the participants of the Odysseus Summer School taking place every year in July in Brussels. It provides an accessible overview of each topic for non-specialists as well as includes critical commentary and future policy and research avenues that will interest specialists.
The launch is taking place on Monday 27th March 2023, from 12:30-14:00 at the Press Club Brussels located near the Schumann roundabout Rue Froissart 95, 1000 Brussels). The co-editors of the volume will be joined by a panel of high level policy-makers and civil society representatives: Tineke Strik (MEP); Catherine Woollard (ECRE) and Guy Stessens (General Secretariat of the Council) to debate current challenges in the EU migration and asylum policies. Sandwich lunch will be offered.
