The study visit of a group of senior journalists from Pakistan gives a rare opportunity to exchange with colleagues on the professional environment and latest trends in journalism in Pakistan and in the South Asian region. Pakistan is going through political and economic turmoil. The vibrant journalist community faces numerous challenges, requiring careful and creative strategies, including in using social media. At the same time, journalism more than ever plays an essential role in Pakistan in informing the public and contribute to a democratic space.

The visiting journalists will be able to give a unique insights into journalistic practices and their rich experiences, the state of media, challenges on the freedom of expression and evolving new forms of media.

Among visiting journalists:

Ms Absa KOMAL – is a broadcast journalist. She hosts current affairs show ‘News Eye’ on Dawn News.

Dawn News is one of Pakistan’s leading news and current affairs television channel. The group publishes the Dawn newspaper and operates TV, radio stations, and websites.

Absa started her career from Radio Pakistan in 2011, joined Capital TV to host a program named ‘Capital News’ and worked with Samaa TV for a while. Before joining Dawn, Absa was the host of Geo News’s popular talk show “Report Card”.

Mr Kamran YOUSAF – is a print and electronic media journalist with over two decades of experience in the field of journalism. He is currently associated with The Express Tribune, one of the leading English dailies and partner of The New York Times, as senior defence & diplomatic Correspondent. Kamran writes a weekly column covering issues dominating foreign policy, national security, defence and political economy.

He co-host a TV show ‘The Review’ on Express News focusing on national security, foreign policy and economy. He contributes to local and international media outlets as commentator. He has previously worked for Dawn News as senior correspondent and political talk show host. He has covered major events in Pakistan including war on terror, lawyers long march, Musharraf’s emergency rule, several general elections and many other happenings. He has interviewed Pakistan’s prominent political leaders including Imran Khan, Nawaz Sharif, Shaukat Aziz to name a few.

This event is organised in partnership with the EEAS, ASIAPAC.2 and the EU Delegation in Islamabad.
