Main focus
Workplace culture and policies do not allow parents of either gender to spend an equal amount of time with their children. While there has been a lot of discussion about how tricky that balancing act between family life and professional development is for women, few have explored what it means for men. Traditional gender roles have shaped our expectations for men and women, as well as informed policies that have resulted in unequal treatment when it comes to professional development, parental leave, pay, pensions, and work-life balance incentives. What would be better workplace policies on both sides of the Atlantic? What does it mean to be a dad — or a working father — in the 21st century? And can we change the image of women who want to pursue a career?
