Energy transformation in Germany & France: What do citizens expect from energy politics?

The Commission’s package on Clean Energy for All Europeans emphasizes the provision of a fair deal for consumers as one of its main pillars. Yet, what do citizens actually consider as a fair energy transition? Do they welcome new technologies like smart meters or smart heating devices, or are they rather skeptical? Can they, and do they wish to, actively participate in the clean energy transition? These and other questions will be discussed at the following event, to which we would like to invite you:

Energy transformation in Germany & France:

What do citizens expect from energy politics?

Date: 19 March 2018 _  13.30 – 17.30

Location:

Representation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia to the European Union

Rue de Montoyer 47 _ 1000 Brussels

Registration is now open and you can register here until March 7th, 2018

The meeting is hosted by the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS) and the Heinrich Böll Foundation France. Based on two different rich empirical studies from Germany and France, we discuss how citizens in both countries perceive the energy transition and the opportunities and challenges associated with it. The study from Germany is based on the Social Sustainability Barometer of the German Energiewende 2017, which was published by the IASS in co-operation with dynamis. The results are based on a representative household survey of more than 7,500 German households. The study from France is based on Le rapport des Français à l’énergie, which was published by the Heinrich Böll Foundation France and is based on a representative survey of more than 1000 French citizens and how they view the energy transition.

Following the presentations, a moderated panel discussion will bring together European representatives from policy, civil society and business to discuss what these results mean for energy policies in the European Union that aim to provide a fair deal for consumers and the clean energy transition.

We would be delighted to welcome you on the 19th of March! More information on the event can be found here. If you are unable to attend, please feel free to spread this invitation among your colleagues.
