A wake-up call to Belgian and European policy makers on 4 September:
From Europe to the Amazon, protect the Earth’s climate, its biodiversity and its people!
As government ministers and parliamentarians reconvene after a summer marked by deadly heat waves, persistent droughts and destructive wildfires, the citizen movement Rise for Climate Belgium will join its main cultural partners Espirito Mundo, L’Hêtre at a rally on Sunday 4 September at 16.00 in front of the Brussels Central Station (Carrefour de l’Europe – Europakruispunt).
with the support of TuiniersForum des Jardiniers, Belgian Climate Coalition, Friends of the Earth Europe, European Coalition for Corporate Justice, Mighty Earth France, Youth For Climate, Mouvement d’Action Paysanne, Boerenforum, Klimaatzaak…
The rally will serve as an urgent wake-up call to underscore the critical importance of preserving nature to limit climate change, maintain biodiversity, and protect human lives. From the green spaces of Brussels to the vast rainforest of the Amazon, natural lands everywhere are threatened by unbridled commercial exploitation and misguided development policies.
Climate disasters are now also a reality in Europe and we ask to declare a real climate emergency and to speed up the implementation of the Green Deal. The climate must be on the agenda of all European Councils of Heads of State.
On the day before World Amazon Day and her scheduled speech at the European Parliament, we are honored to welcome at our rally the Brazilian activist Angela Mendes, representative of the Alliance of the Peoples of the Forest and daughter of the celebrated union leader Chico Mendes.
Other speakers include Jean-Pascal Van Ypersele, climatologist and former vice-president of the IPCC; Nicolas Van Nuffel, president of the Belgian Climate Coalition; Sylvia Obregon European Coalition For Corporate Justice and Boris Patentreger, director of Mighty Earth France. Artistic performances will alternate with the speeches.
