EEAS: Bolivia: Statement by the Spokesperson on allegations against the EU

The EU firmly rejects the accusation levelled by President Arce against the former EU Ambassador to Bolivia, claiming that he participated in “the breaking of the constitutional order” in the context of Bolivia’s 2019 political crisis.

In November 2019, the European Union helped facilitate meetings involving key actors from all political parties, including representatives of MAS, under the leadership of the Catholic Church, and at the explicit request of the Government of President Evo Morales. The objective of these meetings was to help pacify the situation in the country at a time of extreme tension, by creating a dialogue platform, aiming at avoiding further violence and ending the crisis that shook Bolivia. Other countries also contributed to the facilitation process at different times.

The EU works for a solid and constructive relationship with Bolivia in all areas, based on mutual respect.
