Josep Borrell, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, announced today senior appointments in the European External Action Service (EEAS).
Mr Brian GLYNN was appointed as Managing Director for the Americas. He was previously Director for the Americas and Special Envoy of the Government of Ireland within the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade at the Irish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also served earlier as the Ambassador of Ireland to Brazil. Mr Brian Glynn took up his duties at the EEAS on 16 November 2020.
Ms Rita LARANJINHA was appointed as Managing Director for Africa. She was previously Ambassador of Portugal to Denmark and Lithuania and also served as Head of Office and Deputy Director for Foreign Policy in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal. Ms Rita Laranjihna took up her duties at the EEAS on 1 December 2020.
Mr Michael SIEBERT was appointed as Managing Director for Russia, Eastern partnership, Central Asia, Regional cooperation and OSCE. He is currently Director for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia in the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany. He was previously Head of Department for the Southern Caucasus and Central Asia. Mr Michael Siebert will take up his duties at the EEAS shortly.
Ms Kristin DE PEYRON was appointed as Director, Deputy Managing Director for Human Rights, Global and Multilateral Issues. She was previously Head of Division of the Selection and Recruitment Division in the EEAS Budget and Administration Managing Directorate and served earlier as Head of Division for Multilateral Relations and Chair of the Council Working Party on the UN (CONUN). Ms Kristin de Peyron took up her new duties on 16 December 2020.
Mr Marko MAKOVEC was appointed as Director, Deputy Managing Director for Western Europe, Western Balkans, Turkey and the United Kingdom. He served previously as Ambassador, Representative of the Republic of Slovenia to the Political and Security Committee of the EU and earlier as Principal Foreign Policy Adviser to the President of the Republic Slovenia. Mr Marko Makovec took up his new duties in the EEAS on 16 December 2020.
Mr Bernard QUINTIN was appointed as Director, Deputy Managing Director for Africa. He was previously Head of Cabinet of the Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defence. He also served as Belgian Ambassador to Burundi. Mr Bernard Quintin took up his duties at the EEAS on 1 November 2020.
Mr Francisco ESTEBAN PÉREZ was appointed as Director of the Civilian Planning and Conduct Capability / Civilian Operations Commander. He was previously the Head of Cabinet of the Spanish Guardia Civil Directorate-General and of Castilla-La Mancha Territorial Headquarters. He also served as Head of the Personnel Headquarters of the Guardia Civil Directorate-General. Mr Francisco Esteban Pérez took up his duties at the EEAS on 1 October 2020.
