Federica Mogherini met the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Abdulaziz Kamilov
High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini today met the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Abdulaziz Kamilov, and the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Sadyk Safoev. They discussed a number of issues on which the European Union and the Republic of Uzbekistan share a common interest, including the peace process in Afghanistan, and regional cooperation in Central Asia.
High Representative Mogherini and Minister Kamilov reviewed progress in negotiations for a new Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the EU and the Republic of Uzbekistan, which were launched in November 2018. This new Agreement will further deepen bilateral relations and support the ongoing ambitious reform programme in Uzbekistan. They also touched upon parliamentary elections to be held in Uzbekistan on 22 December.
The High Representative welcomed Uzbekistan’s active role in advancing regional cooperation in Central Asia, as well as Uzbekistan’s efforts to assist in the stabilisation of Afghanistan
