Federica Mogherini met with Zoran Zaev, Prime Minister of North Macedonia
Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, met today in Brussels with Zoran Zaev, Prime Minister of North Macedonia.
High Representative/Vice-President Mogherini congratulated the Prime Minister Zaev for the renewed recommendation of the Commission to open accession negotiations with North Macedonia, stressing it is an acknowledgement of the country’s continuous results in key areas, including rule of law. She reconfirmed her determination to support the country in moving forward on its EU integration path.
High Representative/Vice-President Mogherini and Prime Minister Zaev also discussed the situation in the region. The High Representative/Vice-President reiterated that the Prespa agreement, together with the bilateral agreement with Bulgaria, is an example for the entire region, and a demonstration of the power of attraction of the European perspective, which should not be underestimated nor taken for granted.
