Iranian human rights defender Narges Mohammadi has been recently sentenced in Iran to eight years prison term and 70 lashes.
Enforcing this sentence, including the physical punishment, is against the universal principles of human rights and the rule of law.
Narges Mohammadi, who already had to endure years in prison because of her human rights advocacy, has devoted her life to the cause of human rights.
Fundamental rights such as freedom of expression must always be respected.
The EU calls on Iran to comply with its obligations under international law and urgently release Ms Mohammadi, taking also into account her deteriorating health condition.
