Iraq: Statement by the Spokesperson on the attacks on the Coalition forces

The European Union condemns the attack on Taji military base in Iraq on 11 March, which resulted in casualties among the Global Coalition forces fighting Da’esh. We express our condolences to the families of the victims and the governments of the United States and United Kingdom. We wish a speedy recovery to those injured.

The Government of Iraq must exercise its full powers to hold perpetrators accountable. The work of the Global Coalition needs to be preserved, in close cooperation with Iraqi forces. Renewed escalation in Iraq and the region must be avoided at all costs. The EU calls for restraint to defuse tensions. Iraq’s sovereignty and stability must be upheld
