The Manifesto open today to subscription seeks the support from institutions and NGOs, all over Europe before being delivered to the European Commission MEPs Toni Comín and Diana Riba, together with the Plataforma en Defensa de l’Ebre (PDE), have launched today the Manifesto
Towards a Green Europe to Protect European Deltas, claiming that their effective conservation throughout Europe becomes a political priority for the European institutions. The Manifesto exposes the concerns and proposals discussed at the webinar The European Deltas in front of Climate Change, held on the 2nd December 2020 with the participation of different International experts and NGOs, will be delivered to the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Mr. Frans Timmermans, and to the commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Mr. Virginijus Sinkevičius.
In the context of the European Green Deal and the implementation of the Water Framework Directive, the text highlights the need to adopt an holistic view on these extremely vulnerable ecosystems, that takes into account a comprehensive management of watersheds, improves the monitoring of river basin management plans, the recovery of natural flows and sedimentary balance, as well as the need to develop an European plan for the restoration and recovery of deltas.
The Manifesto also aims at the consideration of the deltas as priority areas for action within the European Green Deal framework and the European Biodiversity Strategy 2030.
It is open to subscription, especially to NGOs, academia and research centres, and parliamentarians from all over Europe.
