KATALIN HALMAI ELECTED NEW API-IPA PRESIDENT
The general assembly of the International Press Association API-IPA today unanimously elected Hungarian journalist Katalin Halmai as its new president.
She succeeds Tom Weingärtner, who had to step down after reaching the end of his statutory second two-year term in office. Katalin Halmai has been a correspondent in Brussels since 2001. She currently works for the Hungarian daily newspaper Népszava.
The general assembly also elected two new vice-presidents: Teresa Küchler and Dafydd ab Iago. Teresa Küchler works for the Swedish daily Svenska Dagbladet and is also a podcaster and columnist, while Dafydd ab Iago (UK) is correspondent for the British newsagency Argus Media. Dafydd was already vice-president ad-interim. Kris Van Haver stepped down as vice-president after also reaching the end of her second term.
