The people of Liberia shown a strong commitment to democracy in the peaceful general elections held on 10 October as well as throughout the process. The elections took place in a calm environment with Liberians showing up in good numbers on election day.
Key stakeholders have fulfilled their pledge to promote a peaceful election environment.
Following an invitation from the Government of Liberia, the EU deployed an Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) throughout the country. The mission has now published its preliminary statement, in which it observes that the elections were generally competitive and transparent.
Official results of the elections are expected within the next two weeks.
The EU EOM will remain in Liberia until the end of the electoral period and will then publish a final report and recommendations for improvements of the electoral framework.
