On Tuesday 23 January, the High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell will host the conference “Beyond Disinformation: Strengthening our societies against Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference”.
He will deliver a keynote speech on the topic and present the second EEAS report on foreign interference and information manipulation threats.
His speech will be followed by a high-level panel discussion devoted to building resilience against FIMI with the participation of Bujar Osmani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia, Raphael Glucksmann, the Chair of the 2020-2023 EP Special Committee on Foreign Interference in Democratic Processes (INGE) and Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, Mircea Geoana, the Deputy Secretary General of NATO, and Melissa Fleming, the Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications of the United Nations. The event will be concluded by Vice-President of the European Commission Věra Jourová with an address on European Commission’s activities to tackle threats to democracy.
The event aims to bring together stakeholders from partner countries, EU Institutions and Member States together to foster an even better understanding of how we can bring multi-stakeholder cooperation against FIMI to the next level.
The second EEAS report on FIMI threats describes the current threat landscape, deals with questions about effective countermeasures and sets out a comprehensive response framework, helping all stakeholders in cooperating more effectively in fighting information manipulation.
The keynote speech by HR/VP Borrell will be broadcast on Ebs at 17.00 and live streamed on the EEAS account on X. The event will last until 19.00 and can be watched in full onthe EEAS’ YouTube channel.
