Media advisory: Informal meeting of EU development Ministers on Monday in Brussels

High Representative Josep Borrell will chair an informal meeting of EU Development Ministers on Monday 12 February. The meeting will be hosted by the Belgian Presidency of the EU Council in the Egmont Palace in Brussels.

The meeting will start with a discussion to take stock of the EU’s international cooperation and development policy at the mid-term of the 2021-27 Multi-annual Financial Framework.

Under current affairs, Ministers will discuss Ukraine, notably the state of play of the Ukraine Facility. The High Representative will also update Ministers following his recent visit to the country.

They will then have a lunch with UNRWA Commissioner-General, Philippe Lazzarini, to exchange views on how to better respond to the humanitarian needs in Gaza, on the actions taken by UNRWA in light of the allegations concerning the possible involvement of some staff members in the 7 October terrorist attacks, as well as on preparation for the “day after”.

The High Representative will make a short statement to the media before the meeting at around 8:45, which can be followed on EbS.

The press conference, which is scheduled for 14:30, will also be broadcast on EbS and organised in two parts:

  1. 14:30: Presentation of the conclusions of the Informal Meeting by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, and the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU represented by Belgian Minister of Development Cooperation, Caroline Gennez
  2. 15:00: Press update on the situation in Gaza by UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini, in the presence of High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, and the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU represented by Belgian Minister of Development Cooperation, Caroline Gennez
