EVENT:
U.S. Department of Defense | Exercise Sea Breeze 2019 brings together 19 nations, 33 ships, 26 aircraft, and over 3,000 troops to participate in a maritime, air, and land exercise that will enhance capabilities, improve interoperability and build upon decades of partnership and friendship. The 19th iteration occurs this year and is a field training exercise with a focus on protecting critical infrastructure, force protection, and maritime security operations.

Background: Sea Breeze is an annual multinational maritime exercise, with land, air and amphibious components, and is co-hosted by Ukraine and the United States to enhance interoperability and capabilities among participating forces. The exercise seeks to build combined capability and capacity to ensure regional security and foster trust among participating nations.
Nations scheduled to participate in Sea Breeze include Bulgaria, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, France, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Romania, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the United States.
DETAILS OF PRESS OPPORTUNITIES:
• 01 July – Opening Ceremony – Odesa, Ukraine
o A press conference will follow the ceremony where U.S. and Ukrainian senior naval officers will be available for interviews and questions.
• 02 July – Diving Demonstration for Media – Odesa, Ukraine
o A full tour of the Ukrainian diving center will be given with a live demonstration and static display.
o Divers will be available for short interviews about the training they are doing during the exercise.
• 05 July – Maritime Media Day – Odesa, Ukraine
o Media tours of American, Ukrainian, Turkish, Georgian, Bulgarian, Romanian ships will be available.
o Following each tour, the media will be able to conduct short interviews with Sailors and unit leadership about their specific role in the exercise.
• 07 July – Sea Breeze Distinguished Visitors Day and Major Press Conference
o A special tour will be given of the Ukrainian Flag ship and American ship followed by a press conference with senior leadership from some of the participating nations.
• 08 July – Air Show in Mykolaiv
o An air show with a full display of air power will be given to the media and members of the public.
o There will also be static aircraft displays on the ground for short tours. Members of the aircrews will be available for short interviews to discuss their role in the exercise.
• 11 July – Land Component Demonstration
o A full land demonstration and static display will take place involving U.S. Marines and units from other nations.
o The event will include live-fire engagements, tanks, troop transport vehicles, and more.
o Senior exercise leadership and troops from various levels will be available for short interviews to talk about the training conducted over the last two weeks of the exercise.
• 12 July – Closing Ceremony with U.S. Navy Band Europe
o After the ceremony, interviews with senior leadership will be available.
o In addition, the U.S. Navy band will be playing at the ceremony and following the ceremony.
o This will be the last event of the exercise.
