Photovoltaics | Forms | Landscapes – 10th Year Anniversary Towards solar landscapes that connect

On Tuesday, 22nd June 2021, the 10th anniversary event “PV | Forms | Landscapes – Beauty and Power of designed Photovoltaics” took place in Venice as part of the XVII Architecture Venice Biennal. Feeding the motto of “How will we to live together”, the web-streamed event reflected about “Towards solar landscapes that connect”. Since its inception in 2011, the Chair Alessandra Scognamiglio of the Italian ENEA connects personalities from Architecture and Design with the experts from science and engineering which are behind the development of this fascinating solar technology. This year room has been given also to spirituality, as a natural need of human beings, to acknowledge Heidegger’s  concept of “Poetically man dwells the Earth”, as a way to overcome the mainstream mainly technological vision of sustainability.

As Solar Photovoltaics provides us with ever more climate-friendly electricity, it will be a visible part of our environment, and of our society. Accordingly, all invited speakers from Italy, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, USA, the Netherlands and South Africa presented a fascinating fireworks of designs, ideas and projects, inspired by this years concept of finding the patterns which connects us when we are caring about a better future for this planet and future generations.

The series of events has been nurtured by the European Commission’s in-house Science Service, the Joint Research Centre (JRC), and the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economical Development, (ENEA) and top officials from both organisations delivered their welcome. Bernard Magenhann of the JRC underlined the importance to embrace citizens in the challenge of the energy transition, as it is also demonstrated by the Europan Bauhaus initiative, hosted by the JRC. Giorgio Graditi, Director of Renewable Energy Technologies at ENEA expanded on the impressive plan to foster “Agrivoltaics” and to earmark a significant part of the Italian plan of Recovery and Resilience for a massive increase in the deployment of Photovoltaics.

The programme with its 14 speakers of the Event, structured along MINDSCAPE, ENERGY LANDSCAPES, THE ITALIAN LIVING LAB: CONNECTING LANDSCAPES AND RENEWABLES witnessed impressive creativity in building up preservation and resilience, connecting society with nature, expanding mere technical perspectives to more complex and inclusive, spiritual ones.

The event was organized and promoted by ETA Florence Renewable Energie and took place as a hybrid event. The speakers were partially present in the Italian Pavillon baptized “Resilient Communities”, and partially connected remotely. This allowed an active audience of 398 unique attendees from 24 countries to follow the presentations.
