Fehmida emphasis greater cooperation to tackle challenges of Asia and Europe.
Federal Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination Dr. Fehmida Mirza represented Pakistan at the 12th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) summit that took place on 18-19 October 2018 in Brussels.
Dr. Fehmida Mirza in her statement, focused on the importance of cooperation between Asian and European countries to confront mutual challenges and threats. The Minister suggested that Asia and Europe must join hands to address the issue of Islamophobia, to promote an open, fair, equitable and transparent trading system. “Furthermore, strong International cooperation was a prerequisite to tackle the issues of illicit financial flow and Climate Change under Paris Agreement” she added.
On migration, the Minister suggested that the root causes responsible for migration must be addressed and legal migration channels should be opened to avoid any humanitarian crisis. While stressing the importance of connectivity, the prospects of CPEC were also highlighted. To promote regional peace and stability she said importance must be given to the long-standing disputes on UN agenda. Jammu and Kashmir remain’s the single largest obstacle to durable peace in the region, she added.
The Federal Minister reiterated Pakistan’s determination and commitment to play a role for a cleaner, greener, fairer, just and a more prosperous world.
The biennial ASEM Summit was attended by 21 Asian and 30 European nations.
