S&D Group: Media Advisory – S&D online webinar: Amazon attacks on fundamental worker’s rights and freedoms

Amazon made €44 billion last year in sales throughout Europe, yet the tech giant is reportedly violating workers’ rights and union-busting. The European Parliament’s employment and social affairs committee invited Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos to an official inquiry hearing in the European Parliament next Thursday 27th of May. In a letter sent already last October, MEPs called for urgent action in response to labour unions’ demands for a euro-wide investigation into what they considered a ‘breach of European labour, data and privacy laws’, by Amazon. So far, there is no answer on whether or not CEO Jeff Bezos will accept the European Parliament’s invitation.

To find out more about what happens behind every online purchase on Amazon, and how MEPs and trade unionists plan to counteract Amazon attacks on fundamental worker’s rights and freedoms, join us for a webinar (https://www.socialistsanddemocrats.eu)
next Tuesday, 25 of May, 14h30-16h00 with Professor Alessandro Delfanti (Toronto University), who will present a new study on Amazon’s practices and business model, and trade unionists active in the fight for workers’ rights.
