As the feedback event on the Conference on the Future of Europe takes place today in Brussels, the S&D Group in the European Parliament is committed to delivering the ambitious proposals demanded by citizens in areas like climate, social justice and democracy and supports institutional changes to do this.
Attending the feedback event, S&D vice-president Gaby Bischoff, said:
“The Conference was a successful exercise that proved citizens bring real added value to policymaking and developing new legislation. Inspired by the ambitious proposal on table, we want to build on this exercise with new forms of citizen participation and with a more interactive involvement of citizens throughout our legislative processes in the EU. Members of national Parliaments, civil society, Trade Unions and local representatives have so much to contribute to policymaking and it is time to amplify their impact. We need a European Convention to revise the Treaties and to give citizens and civil society a stronger voice in the EU. With new competences and participatory tools for citizens, the EU can deliver more integration, more social Europe, more sustainability, and more strategic autonomy for the EU.”
