Statement by High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini on the El Salvador-Guatemala-Honduras-Mexico Comprehensive Development Plan
The El Salvador-Guatemala-Honduras-Mexico Comprehensive Development Plan, as recently proposed by the United Nations’ Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean and owned by the Mexican administration, represents an excellent opportunity to enhance bilateral and regional cooperation.
The main objectives of the plan, such as the promotion of inclusive growth through economic development, social cohesion and environmental sustainability, are fully in line with the European Union’s action and priorities for the region, including the modernisation of the EU-Mexico Global Agreement, which shall promote regional and triangular cooperation, as well as with the priorities identified in the EU-Central America Association Agreement.
The European Union is ready to support Mexico and countries in Central America in further developing actions in the areas covered by the Comprehensive Development Plan. We support the further development of the plan in broad consultation with local stakeholders and civil society and taking into account these countries’ development objectives
