The Africa-Europe Foundation partners with local and regional organisations from both continents through the New Partners Initiative

Following the launch of the New Partners Initiative in April 2022, which received nearly 123 projects from 36 countries (24 African countries and 11 European countries), the Africa Europe Foundation announces the final selection of 16 projects, 10 of which come from Africa and 6 from Europe.

With this initiative, the Africa Europe Foundation reinforces its support for actions led locally by civil society and youth organizations that contribute to shaping a strong and mutually beneficial partnership between Africa and Europe.

The 16 projects selected are aligned with the themes and actions identified as priorities by the AEF for strengthening relations between the two continents. In addition to their relevance to the AEF’s strategic themes, the projects that applied were required to meet criteria related to their cost-effectiveness, their approach to Africa-Europe relations and their impact on priority audiences. Each winner will receive funding in the form of microgrants as well as the support of a dedicated resource manager and access to communication platforms.

Among the selected projects, 62.5% come from the African continent. Several countries (Senegal, Rwanda, Morocco, Egypt, South Africa…) and languages (French, English, Arabic, Portuguese…) are represented, allowing for a representative panel of the Foundation’s activities.

The 16 selected projects are as follows:

  • Africa Matters (South Africa), a youth-led organization active in social entrepreneurship and empowerment advocacy;
  • Generations for Health (Spain-Egypt), a youth advocacy association, which aims to connect youth from both continents with key decision makers in the health sector;
  • Hespress English (Morocco), a Moroccan online media platform launched in 2021, specialized on international topics;
  • Afriko (Lithuania-Belgium), a research and consultancy centre, which aims to strengthen relations between the Baltic countries and African countries;
  • KQ Hub Africa (Uganda), an agency and studio that aims to participate in the development of the contemporary art and cultural scene in East Africa;
  • Africa Women Innovation & Entrepreneurship Forum (South Africa – Egypt), an NGO working for the empowerment of women in South Africa and Nigeria, in collaboration with the UN;
  • African Diaspora Policy Centre (Netherlands), a think tank in the field of migration and development;
  • Nala Feminist Collective (Panafrican), a pan-African collective working on the mobilization of women from the African continent and the diaspora on public policies;
  • Je m’engage pour l’Afrique (France – Algeria – Morocco – Tunisia), an African and European incubator focused on youth involvement in public policy issues that link the two continents;
  • Diaspora Development Education Migration (Senegal), a Senegalese NGO with African and European partners, working on issues of migration, education, and local development;
  • Ecolotrip (Togo), Youth and Francophone NGO committed to the fight against climate change;
  • IPDAL (Portugal), a non-profit, whose objective is to strengthen relations between Portugal, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, mainly through economic diplomacy;
  • European Strategy Initiative (Belgium), an NGO that aims to promote Europe’s strategic autonomy in collaboration with the continent’s political and economic decision makers;
  • Abantu Books (South Africa), a public interest company that produced the film “The Ultimate Book Show” selected for the 2022 Cannes Film Festival;
  • Africa Observatory (South Africa), an African intergovernmental organization that aims to promote the implementation of several international agreements on desertification, biodiversity and climate change issues in Africa;
  • Emerging Public Leaders (United States – Liberia – Ghana – Kenya – Rwanda), an NGO working on youth and the development of competent, ethical and effective public service leaders on the African continent.

All these organizations selected in the framework of the New Partners Initiative testify to the will of the Africa-Europe Foundation to strengthen its commitment to the inclusion of European and African youth in the redefinition of a better partnership governance between the two continents.
