The Mission of the State of Palestine calls on EU to condemn Minister Shaked’s public support for terrorist group
[BRUSSELS, 09 JANUARY]. On Monday the 7th January, Israeli Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked visited, in a show of support, the families of a Jewish terrorist cell responsible for the murder of a Palestinian woman on October 2018. Aisha Rabi, a 48 year old Palestinian woman from the city of Nablus, was brutally murdered when her car came under attack by Israeli settlers. The Israel occupation forces operating in the area did nothing to prevent or deter the attack. Five members of a terrorist cell, all students at the Pri Ha’aretz Yeshiva High School in the illegal Rehelim settlement in the West Bank, were later arrested for the attack.
Minister Shaked’s visit to the families of these terrorists is yet another clear, disturbing sign that this far-right extremist Israeli administration has no respect for the lives and rights of the Palestinians. Shaked’s actions should be condemned with in the strongest possible terms. The European Union must disassociate itself with individuals who so openly declare their support for terrorism and extremist agendas.
It is equally deeply concerning that Shaked’s actions have been met with silence by her partners and colleagues. The complete impunity of the perpetrators of terrorism and those would support them will only continue to fuel the injustice and human rights violations under Israel’s illegal occupation. The European Union must uphold its moral duty and a legal responsibility to proactively assess the human rights situation on the ground – given the significant human rights component of the EU-Israel Association Agreement.
