UNGA77: High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell travels to New York

From 18 to 23 September, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, will travel to New York, where he will host and participate in a number of events and bilateral meetings throughout the high-level week of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

On Sunday, 18 September, the High Representative will meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

On Monday, 19 September, High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell will participate in the panel discussion ‘From Ukraine to the Americas: fortifying recovery against global shocks’, together with the Foreign Minister of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba and the Foreign Minister of Guatemala Mario Bucaro, among others. In the afternoon, High Representative Borrell will chair an informal meeting of EU Foreign Affairs Ministers. He will hold a press conference at the end of the meeting (18:00 EST), which will be transmitted live on EbS.

On Tuesday, 20 September, High Representative/Vice-President Borrell will join the President of the European Council Charles Michel and the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen for the opening session of the General Debate of the 77th UN General Assembly. The same day they will meet with the UN Secretary-General António Guterres. High Representative/Vice-President Borrell will then convene leaders from the Western Balkans for the traditional meeting organised on the margins of the UNGA. High Representative/Vice-President Borrell will deliver a statement at the pledging conference for the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF).

On Wednesday, 21 September, High Representative Borrell will represent the EU at the 12th Ministerial meeting of the Global Counterterrorism Forum, co-hosted by its current co-chairs, Canada and Morocco. He will then participate in a High-level side event on the safety and security of civilians nuclear facilities in armed conflict, organised by France. He will also represent the EU at a Ministerial meeting on International Mobilisation for Development and Security in the Sahel and Gulf of Guinea countries, organised by France. In the evening, he will attend a G7 Foreign Ministers meeting.

On Thursday, 22 September, High Representative Borrell will host a Ministerial meeting between the EU and the Gulf Cooperation Council. In the afternoon, High Representative Borrell will participate in a Minerals Security Partnership meeting as well as in the Ministerial meeting of the Ad-Hoc Liaison Committee on Palestine, hosted by Norway. In the evening, he will attend the dinner of the Transatlantic Foreign Ministers, hosted by the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

On Friday, 23 September, High Representative/Vice-President Borrell will accompany President Michel, who will deliver the statement on behalf of the EU during the General Debate of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.

The High Representative will hold a series of bilateral meetings with international interlocutors.
