The European Union regrets the latest executions of five people in Kuwait and remains concerned with the increased use of capital punishment in the country during the last two years.
The European Union strongly opposes the death penalty in all cases and in all circumstances. It is a cruel and an inhumane punishment, which is incompatible with the inalienable right to life, fails to act as a deterrent to crime and represents an unacceptable denial of the fundamental right to life and of human dignity.
The EU will continue to work for the abolition of the death penalty in the few remaining countries that still apply it.
