The My Voice, My Choice movement will give a statement after the public hearing in the European Parliament on their
European Citizens’ Initiative for safe and accessible abortion across Europe, which has collected more than 1.1 million verified signatures.
They will also celebrate their first achievements in European institutions and present the next steps.
The My Voice, My Choice movement invites members of the press to a press conference following a public hearing in the European Parliament on the initiative for safe and accessible abortion in the EU. This hearing is part of the official process of the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI), which has started with the submission of more than 1.1 million signatures from citizens from all EU member states on September 1st 2025. The hearing follows an official meeting with the European Commission on October 1st 2025, where the organisers presented the demand that the EU adopts legislation that would financially support member states in ensuring safe abortion access for everyone in Europe who still lacks access.
The European Commission has to provide an official response to the demands of the My Voice, My Choice initiative by March 2026, outlining the measures it will take. Before that decision is made, the organisers are securing the political support for the initiative in the Parliament.
So far the European Parliament has included support for the initiative in the Gender Equality Strategy 2025 report and is going to vote on a resolution in support of the My Voice, My Choice initiative, which has already passed the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality, expected in December.
At the press conference, we will:
- Share the outcomes of the public hearing,
- Highlight the urgency of the situation, as more than 20 million women in the EU still lack access to safe abortion, and
- Present current achievements in the European Parliament and our expectations ahead of the plenary vote on a resolution supporting My Voice, My Choice.
