Amid the 15th anniversary of the Press Club Brussels Europe, we continue our series of events dedicated to the most pressing challenges facing journalism, media, and public communication today.
Our board members, Oliver Money-Kyrle and Cailin Mackenzie from NUJ, invites you to join our upcoming event, The European Democracy Shield and its impact on journalism, on Monday 29 June 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, at the Press Club Brussels Europe.
Simona Constantin and Laetitia Close, , representatives of Commissioner Michael McGrath’s Cabinet and responsible for democracy, media freedom and civil society, will join us for an informal, off-the-record conversation to demystify the many and varied new regulations governing Europe’s media.
Among them, the Media Freedom Act, the Anti-SLAPP Directive and other initiatives to support journalists’ safety, rights and access to information and financing.
Find out what it all means for working journalists.
The wide-ranging agenda will include:
- EMFA – Spyware and protection of sources, editorial independence and media pluralism, transparent public financing for media, and the protections offered to journalists from over-zealous platform moderation.
- Anti-SLAPP Directive and the protection journalists from vexatious lawsuits.
Places are limited and reserved for members of the Press Club Brussels Europe and the NUJ.

António Buscardini
