The Jerusalem Human Rights Consortium (JHRC) is inviting you to a press conference to cast a light on the situation in East Jerusalem, where Israeli authorities have accelerated forced evictions, house demolitions and forced displacement of Palestinians, while expanding Israeli illegal settlements. These serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian law (IHL) are dramatically impacting the lives of Palestinians, with a disproportionate impact on women and girls and other vulnerable groups.
If continuing at this pace, this process of de-Palestinisation of the city will become irreversible. Alongside the implementation of the E1 settlement project and the escalation of settler violence, it will further undermine the prospect of a viable Palestinian state, and any durable solution to conflict and instability in the Middle East.
International human rights and humanitarian groups and a growing number of EU member states are calling on the European Union to convert words of concerns into urgent action to hold Israeli authorities accountable for their serious human rights and IHL violations in the occupied Palestinian territory, at the next EU Foreign Affairs Council on 12 October, through measures such as a ban on trade with Israeli illegal settlements and a new E1 sanctions package.

Background information
The Jerusalem Human Rights Consortium (JHRC) includes the following civil society organisations: Society of Saint Yves (Lead organization), the Jerusalem Legal Aid Centre (JLAC), the Women’s Centre for Legal Aid and Counselling (WCLAC), the Arab Centre for Alternative Planning (ACAP) and the EuroMed Rights Network (EMR). The goal of the Consortium is to protect and support marginalized Palestinian communities in East Jerusalem, enhance their resilience, prevent forcible transfer, and empower them to maintain their residency status and access their rights, by providing legal aid and immediate support for individuals and communities under pressure from the Israeli legal system.
