The EU-Mauretania Migration Partnership:
business as usual or radical departure?
Monday, 18 November 2024 (14h00 – 16h00)
Press Club Brussels Europe
Rue Froissart 95 – 1040 Brussels
On 7 March 2024, the European Commission and the Mauritanian government signed a migration partnership agreement which is structured around five priority areas, four of which relate to asylum, migration and border management.
ECRE has commissioned a working paper that analyses this agreement and puts it into context of EU – Mauretania relations since 2006. The paper details the consequences of the partnership agreement for migrants and asylum seekers in Mauritania as well as for social cohesion more widely in the country. It also adds reflections on wider considerations on its impact on dynamics in the Sahel region and concludes with a set of recommendations.
At the meeting, the analysis and recommendations of the paper will be presented and discussed. Following reactions from a few respondents, all participants are welcome to engage in the discussion.
