The North Sea offers great potential to revolutionise energy production and security for the EU. This event will focus on the significant advantages of complementing offshore hydrogen and electricity production and transportation, examining their role in decarbonisation and EU competitiveness.
Realising this potential faces hurdles. There are significant challenges including regulatory fragmentation, substantial initial investment costs, and complex spatial constraints. The panel will examine the detailed analysis of these barriers and explore innovative policy options to overcome them. These options include strengthening regional cooperation, streamlining permitting processes, and de-risking investments through effective financing models.
Panellists will also discuss the innovative projects underway across the North Sea region, delving into the policy frameworks needed to foster investment in green energy sources, grid infrastructure, and collaborative cross-borders planning initiatives.
The discussion will also tackle the challenges inherent to offshore hydrogen infrastructure development, from technical considerations to navigating complex legal frameworks. Finally, it will provide valuable insights and perspectives that will illuminate the path towards a greener and more resilient energy future for Europe and beyond.
A light lunch will be served after the panel discussion.
