The Egyptian Human Rights Forum (EHRF), in partnership with EuroMed Rights is pleased to invite you to a press conference marking the launch of “Wherever they go: Transnational Repression and the Targeting of Egyptians abroad ” Annual Report on Transnational Repression by Egyptian Authorities and the presentation of our first-ever database documenting incidents and patterns of transnational repression by Egyptian authorities.
This event comes in light of the recent Council of Europe Resolution on Human Rights Priorities, which explicitly highlighted transnational repression, as well as the evolving context of EU–Egypt relations, including ongoing discussions on strategic partnership and macro-financial assistance.
The press conference aims to contribute evidence-based insights to these ongoing policy conversations.
The event will highlight key findings from the report, emerging trends affecting Egyptian human rights defenders and political exiles abroad, and concrete policy recommendations directed at EU institutions and member states.
Keynote Speakers are:
- Chloé Ridel, Member of the European Parliament, S&D group.
- Moataz El Fegiery, Vice-President, EuroMed Rights and President of Egyptian Human Rights Forum (EHRF)
- Samar Elhussieny, Executive Director, Egyptian Human Rights Forum (EHRF)
- Alexis Deswaef, President of International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH)
Moderator: Leslie Piquemal, Egypt Researcher in Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS)
The press conference will conclude with an open Q&A session with journalists.
