Digital Political Campaigning and the Power of Social Media
We are delighted to invite you to our next event!
Social media has become a pivotal tool for political campaigns, enabling politicians to engage directly with voters, present their policy proposals, and generate support. The 2024 European elections witnessed a marked increase in candidates using their online platforms to reach broader audiences. However, at the same time, this digital landscape has also raised concerns regarding the spread of misinformation and disinformation.
This evolving mode of campaigning is of significant importance not only to politicians but also to public affairs professionals, including corporations, associations, and NGOs, who are increasingly integrating social media into their advocacy strategies.
In this context, we are pleased to bring together a distinguished panel of speakers to discuss:
- Political campaigning and social media from both a political and institutional perspective
- The role of social media in democratising policy-making and the associated risks
- A comparative assessment of European and American elections
Agenda:
17:30 – 18:30: Panel discussion
18:30 – 19:00: Questions and answers
19:00 – 19:30: Cocktail reception
Confirmed speakers:
- Dave Keating, Brussels Correspondent, FRANCE 24
- Philipp Schulmeister, Director for Campaigns, European Parliament
- Alice Stollmeyer, Executive Director, Defend Democracy
- Zala Tomašič, Member of the European Parliament (new)
Moderator: Yiannis Korkovelos, SEAP Board member
We look forward to your participation in what promises to be an engaging and insightful discussion. This event will be held under the Chatham House Rule.
