Invitation to Digital Democracy Lab: AI and Democratic Innovations

Time: 15 October, 2024, 10-12:30 CET

Place: Press Club Brussels Europe, Rue Froissart 95, 1040 Bruxelles

In person participation only.

We are pleased to invite you to an event to explore the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and democratic processes. While AI offers potential for enhancing the voices of unrepresented communities, it can also undermine democratic values under the current development trajectory.

The goal of the workshop is to map pathways for responsibly utilising AI as part of deliberative processes and identify gaps in current AI governance approaches regarding democratic processes. A Digital Democracy prototype tool will be presented to elicit feedback on initial guidelines for democracy-in-the-loop AI applications and democratic stewardship of technology.

As a participant, you can help shape policy pathways for responsible integration of AI in democratic processes and the democratic governance of AI, considering both potential benefits and risks. Moreover, the event offers a stimulating environment to network with peers from democratic innovations and AI policy backgrounds, fostering cross-disciplinary dialogue. Coffee and light lunch will be provided at the event.

The event is part of the KT4D project, which investigates how democracy and civic participation can be safeguarded and fostered in the face of rapidly changing knowledge technologies, such as AI. As part of the research project, we will organize three roundtables with policymakers, think tanks, and CSOs in Brussels to develop a framework for democratic AI governance.
