Challenges and ways forward for implementing the New Pact
The New Pact on Migration and Asylum was intended to finally put an end to the disagreements that have been ongoing between member states for years. However, the October EUCO dramatically revealed that this goal has still not been achieved. Against this background, one might ask: What remains of the New Pact before it has even been fully implemented?
On 12 November, the FES, FEPS, EPC and the Odysseus Network aim to bring a constructive approach into the once again heated debate on migration by launching our “Implementing the New Pact” policy study series. Join us at 16:00 in the Press Club, where our panel discussion will bring together the authors of our policy study series, legal experts, policymakers, as well as civil society. Don’t miss the opportunity to exchange with them during the subsequent network reception. Click here to register now, as the space on-site is limited!
Background
During our panel discussion, we will explore the comprehensive changes introduced by the New Pact on Migration and Asylum and ways to ensure their proper implementation over the coming years. With member states due to finalise their national implementation plans before the end of the year, this event will focus on the conditions needed for solidarity to work, fundamental rights safeguards across key files, and effectiveness in policy implementation.
It builds on 4 policy studies, which focus on 1) the new European solidarity mechanism, 2) the EU cooperation with third countries, 3) a future-proof crisis management, 4) the new screening and border procedures introduced by the New Pact.
The policy studies’ authors, legal experts, policymakers and civil society will analyse and discuss challenges and ways forward for implementing the New Pact and strengthening the Common European Asylum System to create a resilient system that balances responsibility and solidarity as well as protects human rights and the rule of law.
