On behalf of the European Foundation for Democracy we would like to invite you to a policy discussion on the topic of “China’s lawfare and long-arm jurisdiction” and its implications and impact on advocates for Taiwan’s independence. The discussion will explore China’s strategy of lawfare — i.e. using legal means to achieve strategic purposes — to advance its territorial ambitions, particularly regarding Taiwan and neighbouring territories.

Speakers:

  • Zuzana Koskova, European Values Centre for Security Policy
  • Roland Freudenstein, Brussels Freedom Hub
  • Laura Harth, Safeguard Defenders
  • Deniz Güzel, Council on Geostrategy

Expert speakers will explore China’s application of law as a tool of geopolitical influence and provide insights into potential strategies to counter coercive manoeuvres while maintaining peace and stability, ensuring that sovereignty and international norms remain unchallenged in this geopolitically sensitive region. The discussion will cover key areas including the One-China Policy vs. One-China Principle, cognitive warfare: disinformation and social media, Taiwan’s international participation & UN Resolution 2758, overseas police stations & extrajudicial influence
