Join us on 27 January at Press Club, Brussels for a crucial discussion on the future of

tobacco taxation policy in Europe – and its impact on public health, youth protection and fiscal policy.

The event will bring together representatives from the European Commission, including Commissioner Hoekstra’s Cabinet, alongside the OECD, the European Respiratory Society (ERS), the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), Smokefree Partnership, and Contre feu, to examine the health and economic benefits of the EU Commission’s proposed Tobacco Taxation Directive (TTD). The discussion will:

This event aims to provide support and the right evidence to Member States to support this proposal and help them reach multisectoral consensus nationally. It will feature a number of panel discussions, keynote remarks, and networking opportunities.

Discussions will cover:

Tobacco consumption remains the leading cause of premature death in the EU. Taxation is an effective, proven way of reducing its prevalence and the proposed Directive is a critical step towards aligning tobacco policy with current public health priorities.
