Union for the Mediterranean Secretary General Nasser Kamel will meet with Brussels-based journalists on 7 July to discuss the evolving nature of Euro-Mediterranean relations and the role of the organisation within this challenging landscape. Taking place ahead of the UfM’s Senior Officials Meeting, the Secretary General will delve into the organisation’s current activities and priorities in addition to its new strategy coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the Barcelona Process. He will also examine complementarities and synergies between the UfM’s work and the implementation of the regional dimension of the New Pact for the Mediterranean.
Nasser Kamel is a seasoned Egyptian diplomat who served as Ambassador to the UK (2014–2018) and France (2006–2012), where he contributed to the 2008 Paris Summit launching the Union for the Mediterranean. He also held key roles as Assistant Minister for Arab and Middle Eastern Affairs and Director of Egypt’s Public Information Service, with earlier postings in Washington, Lisbon, Tunis, Brussels, and Paris.
The event will take place at Press Club Brussels Europe, located at Rue Froissart 95, 1040 Brussels, from 11:00 to 11:50 CET.
