Abortion ban situation in Poland and what the EU decision on My Voice, My Choice would change
Wednesday, 25 February
Time & venue: 12:00, Press Club Brussels Europe, Rue Froissart 95,
One day before the European Commission’s final decision on the My Voice, My Choice: for safe and accessible abortion European Citizens’ Initiative, representatives of Polish feminist, reproductive rights, and youth organisations will speak about the impact of abortion bans in Poland and what a positive reply to the My Voice, My Choice initiative would mean for people affected by these restrictions.
The speakers represent organisations providing direct support to people denied abortion care, advocating for reproductive rights, and mobilising women and young people for systemic change in Poland and across Europe.
My Voice, My Choice proposes a voluntary financial mechanism enabling participating Member States to provide abortion care to people who cannot access it in their home country. The initiative has gathered more than 1.2 million signatures across the EU and majority support of EU Parliament.
Speakers:
- Nika Kovač, Coordinator of My Voice, My Choice, a European Citizens’ Initiative for safe abortion access across the EU
- Aleksandra Loboda, Co-founder of Widzialne Foundation, a Polish feminist organisation supporting people affected by gender- and origin-based discrimination
- Mateusz Bieżuński, Legal expert at FEDERA, a Polish reproductive rights organisation providing abortion-related support and advocacy
- Dominika Lasota, Co-founder of WSCHÓD, a youth-led organisation mobilising women and marginalised communities for progressive change in Poland
The press conference will be streamed here as well: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFWBDOElTrmVotVrnlsI5fw?view_as=subscriber
