For the first time in history, UNESCO will organise its General Conference in the ancient city of Samarkand, from Thursday, 30 October 2025, to Thursday, 13 November 2025, at the Silk Road Samarkand Conference Center.
This is a momentous occasion and a profound honour for Uzbekistan. The decision highlights the growing international recognition of Samarkand not only as a cradle of civilisations but also as a dynamic hub of cultural diplomacy and sustainable tourism.
This will be the first session of the General Conference to take place outside UNESCO’s Paris headquarters since 1985, underlining the significance of the choice. Samarkand’s selection reflects its growing role on the global stage and its unique capacity to bridge heritage, dialogue, and opportunity.
On Monday, 7 July 2025, at the Press Club Brussels Europe, Travel Tomorrow will organise a dedicated conference to explore what this means for Uzbekistan and for the global travel and tourism industry.
