In 2012, Aidan White launched the Ethical Journalism Network (EJN) here in Brussels to promote ethics, good governance and self-regulation in news media. In 2014, the EJN moved to London where it was based until January this year. Now it’s coming home!
The Network is freshly re-registered in Belgium and on the 28 May Aidan White gathering together some friends and supporters to discuss what should be our priorities for EJN 2026. We might agree that it’s a perilous time for ethical journalism with AI, new online players and old threats from corporate and political centres of power still in play.
They discussed two critical questions:
1. What practical and useful support can we give to journalists and media support groups who are trying to keep the ethical flame alive?
2. What priorities should the EJN adopt for the immediate future, including reporting on egregious ethical behaviour? Reaching out to new players in the field of journalism?
