Panel Debate : Prospects for EU – Iran relations

EU ASIA DECEMBERThe EU-Asia Centre and Cambre associates organized a panel discussion on ‘Prospects for EU-Iran relations’ at the Press Club on 15 December.

Following the nuclear deal there is considerable interest and speculation about the next steps in EU-Iran relations. There have been many European delegations visiting Teheran seeking new business opportunities. But how stable is the political situation in Iran? What are the prospects for change including in human rights and the rule of law? How should the EU position itself vis-à-vis Iran? Could there be a bilateral agreement in the coming year, leading to deeper political, trade and people-to-people relations? Could the EU and Iran work together in regional security, including Syria? How does the US view Iran and what is the impact of the continuing US sanctions on European businesses? What are the priority sectors for European investment? And what are the risks? These are some of the questions that will be covered in the panel debate.
