The “Cuban Five” were accused of espionage and spent long years in US prisons after a trial held in Miami in 1998. Gerardo Hernandez, pictured here with his wife Adriana Perez O’Connor and little daughter Gema, was sentenced to “two life periods in prison plus 15 years”. He was released at the end of 2014 after the reopening of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
