Brussels / Brasília, 19 November 2025 — In a significant step toward strengthening the global hydrogen economy, the Associação Brasileira da Indústria do Hidrogênio Verde (ABIHV), the Hydrogen Council of Belgium, and Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen cooperation in technology, investment, innovation, and market development for renewable and low-carbon hydrogen.
The agreement was formalized today during a bilateral session hosted at the Embassy of Belgium in Brazil, bringing together government representatives, industry leaders, and academic experts committed to advancing the energy transition.
A Strategic Bridge Between Two Hydrogen Leaders
Brazil and Belgium—through Flanders—are emerging as complementary leaders in the global hydrogen chain. Brazil offers abundant renewable resources, large-scale potential for cost-competitive hydrogen, ammonia, and green molecules, and an expanding regulatory framework. Belgium and Flanders, in turn, are key European import hubs with advanced hydrogen infrastructure, world-class industrial clusters, and strong innovation ecosystems.
The MoU establishes a long-term cooperation platform focused on:
- Facilitating trade and investment in green hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, and derivatives.
- Promoting joint R&D initiatives, industrial innovation, and university-industry partnerships.
- Developing certification, standards, and traceability mechanisms, supporting Brazil’s Marco Legal do Hidrogênio and Europe’s rapidly evolving market rules.
- Sharing best practices on ports, pipelines, terminals, and maritime logistics.
- Accelerating project matchmaking, linking Brazilian producers with Belgian and Flemish offtakers.
- Supporting skills development through exchange programs, training, and technical missions.
Leadership Statements
Fernanda Delgado, CEO of ABIHV, highlighted the geopolitical relevance of the partnership:
“Brazil is stepping forward as a global provider of sustainable molecules. By connecting our industrial capacity to the advanced logistics and demand centers in Belgium and Flanders, this MoU creates a concrete pathway for scale, competitiveness, and global climate impact. We see this as a strategic alliance for the next decade.”
“Belgium aims to secure diversified, reliable, and sustainable hydrogen imports. Brazil—thanks to its renewable abundance and industrial leadership—stands out as a long-term partner. This MoU enables a structured dialogue to bring projects from concept to reality.”
The partnership comes at a decisive moment. Brazil is preparing to host COP30 in Belém, Belgium is deepening its role in EU hydrogen corridors (including the Antwerp–Zeebrugge Hydrogen Valley), and the global race for cost-effective green molecules is accelerating.
The signatory organizations recognize that international collaboration is essential to reach the scale required for competitive, reliable, and climate-positive hydrogen supply chains.
