The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission (HR/VP), Josep Borrell, will travel to the Middle East from 20 to 24 November.
On Wednesday 20, the High Representative will attend an audience with King Abdallah II in Amman. He will also give a keynote speech at the University of Jordan, under the auspices of Princess Rym Ali.
On Thursday 21, he will meet with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan Ayman Safadi. The meeting will be followed by a joint press conference. The HR/VP will also meet with Palestinian leaders.
On Friday 22, the High Representative will travel to Cyprus, where he will give a keynote speech at an event of the Two-State Coalition for Israel/Palestine with civil society from both countries on Saturday.
On Sunday 24, he will travel to Lebanon to hold several bilateral meetings, including with Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Lebanese Armed Force Commander Josef Aoun, and representatives of the United Nations in the country.
In the background of the catastrophic situation in Gaza and the military escalation in Lebanon, the trip will be an occasion to continue to discuss with partners in the region a possible way forward towards a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, and a longer term process based on the Two-State solution.
