Launch: An Eye on Methane Annual Report 2025
Wednesday, 22 October || 12:00-12:45pm EAT
On 22 October 2025, the UN Environment Programme’s (UNEP) International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) will launch An Eye on Methane: From measurement to momentum, which takes stock of progress harnessing a data revolution that can accelerate methane reduction on a global scale.
IMEO provides open, reliable and actionable data to the individuals who can use it to reduce methane emissions. Its annual report maps how satellite data provided by UNEP’s Methane Alert and Response System is—and is not—being used to drive action. It also assesses the oil and gas sector’s progress in measuring and reducing methane emissions, and details how IMEO is evolving its data-sharing tools and scientific research to enable mitigation and expand action to additional sectors like steel and waste.
The report launches ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30), where methane will be a key issue. It will provide a valuable indicator of how stakeholders across government and the private sector are leveraging data-driven tools to deliver on methane emission commitments.
