Following the official proclamation of results in Peru’s presidential elections by the National Elections Board, the EU congratulates Keiko Fujimori for her election as President of Peru.
Relations between the European Union and Peru are based on deep historical, cultural and human ties, and on shared values such as democracy, rule of law, human rights and the defence of multilateralism and international law. The EU reiterates its support to all efforts aimed at inclusive dialogue, and strengthening the rule of law and democratic institutions. In this vein, the EU responded positively to the Peruvian authorities’ invitation to observe these elections with the deployment of an Electoral Observation Mission, thereby contributing to the transparency and credibility of the electoral process.
The European Union looks forward to working with the new administration of President-elect Fujimori to further deepen our political dialogue and cooperation in investment, trade, security, multilateral affairs and sustainable development, including through the Global Gateway Investment Agenda.
